Rick Castle is one of the world's most successful crime authors. He is asked to consult with the New York City police about a serial-killer case in which the murderer is reenacting scenes from Castle's books. Beckett, an avid reader of Castle's books, initially disapproves of having Castle shadow her work, but later warms up and recognizes Castle as a useful resource in her team's investigations.

This first outing gives it plenty of room for improvement, but also plenty of space in which to grow.March 09, 2009
Fillion is the main reason to watch Castle. Charming and witty, his character brings some fun to what's otherwise a fairly standard cop procedural.March 09, 2009
This sort of banter takes up a good portion of the Castle premiere episode, each instance of it reinforcing the always-already familiar premise.March 09, 2009
With Moonlighting and Murder, She Wrote as the dominant influences, Castle is predisposed to be formulaic and stale.March 09, 2009
Castle might be a palatable program for viewers who tune in after Dancing with the Stars.March 09, 2009
Viewers who stumble into this misbegotten Moonlighting imitation will likely be bored, too.March 09, 2009
The trouble with Castle is that it's just so completely fluffy - which is annoying.March 09, 2009
Castle could be all kinds of fun.March 09, 2009
Fillion's performance is top-notch and his character's off-key relationship with his mother and daughter adds a charming element to the series that makes it more than the usual police procedural.
